Mr. John Lewis
CEO & President
Prior to working at Harbor, Mr. Lewis founded a financial technology company affiliated with the Emerging Technology Center incubator in Baltimore and a consultancy to Community Development Corporations.
He previously held leadership roles in the Global Wealth and Investment Management Division of Merrill Lynch & Co. Inc. As a Director in the Chief Operating Officer Group, he supported global activities with $2.2 trillion in assets under management. The division held responsibility for mutual fund, debt and equity offerings, alternative and structured investments, managed account programs, investment manager due diligence, portfolio construction and investment guidance. He began his tenure with Merrill as Chief Financial Officer for Bank Product Distribution in the Global Banking Group. This group generated $3.2 billion in revenues annually and held responsibility for small business, securities based, and mortgage lending, as well as deposit, credit and debit card products.
Lewis earlier held officer level positions at Credit Suisse First Boston and FleetBoston Financial Group. He completed formal management and credit training programs and M&T Bank and Fleet Bank. He is a member of the Real Estate Executive Council, the CFA Institute, and the Young Presidents Organization. He is also a certified Six Sigma Executive Sponsor.
He serves as Trustee and Investment Committee Chairman of the Maryland Supplemental Retirement Plans ($4 Billion in AUM with 66,000 beneficiaries), Trustee of Baltimore City Community College, Appointee of the Small Business Advisory Committee to the Mayor of Baltimore, and Advisory Board member to several high growth start-ups.
In 2017, Mr. Lewis was appointed by Governor and Maryland Bankers Association to the Task Force to Investigate the Challenges and Opportunities for Minorities in Business.
He holds a B.S. in Industrial and Labor Relations from Cornell University and an M.B.A. from the Harvard Graduate School of Business, where he was a Robert Toigo Fellow.
