At MT Holdings Mr. Thomas led consulting engagements for privately held companies across numerous sectors including health care, cybersecurity, communications, technology and energy. These engagements routinely involved leading capital raising efforts, M&A activities, deal structuring, due diligence, and post transaction strategy execution.
Mr. Thomas was a senior member of the management teams of SCI Ventures and Syncom Venture Management, pioneering venture capital institutions that primarily focused on investing in minority entrepreneurs and companies whose products and services super-serve underserved communities. Collectively, the firms managed more than $500 million for their investors. Mr. Thomas’s primary responsibilities included sourcing investment opportunities; representing the firms on the Boards of Directors of portfolio companies; and providing hands-on portfolio management services, from advising on corporate strategy to fund raising to acting in the capacity of an interim CEO/COO/CFO, as needed. As a senior executive and partial owner at both firms, Mr. Thomas sat on the investment committees that approved all investments and played an active role in the day to day management of the organizations.
Prior to his work at MT Holdings, SCI Ventures, and Syncom, Mr. Thomas managed the $500 million international equity allocation and the $150 million alternative investments portfolio at Southern California Edison’s Pension Fund.
